Ayurveda 101
Ancient wisdom for modern wellness — the tradition behind every cup.
What Is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda — "the science of life" — is a 5,000-year-old tradition originating in India. It teaches that a fulfilling life comes from balance: balance between mind and body, between the individual and nature, and between the foods we consume and the lives we lead.
The Three Pillars of Ayurveda
A balanced life rests on three foundations
Ahara (Diet)
You are what you eat. Ayurveda emphasizes eating whole, seasonal foods that align with your unique body constitution.
Nidra (Sleep)
Restful sleep is the foundation of a balanced day. In Ayurveda, quality rest is considered as vital as nourishment.
Brahmacharya (Balance)
Mindful use of energy — physical, mental, and emotional — to maintain harmony in everyday life.
The Three Doshas
In Ayurveda, every person has a unique combination of three life energies — called doshas. Understanding your dominant dosha helps guide everything from diet to daily routines.

Tea in the Ayurvedic Tradition
A Daily Ritual
In Ayurveda, drinking herbal tea is more than hydration — it's a daily ritual. The act of boiling water, steeping herbs, and savoring the aroma is itself a form of mindfulness. Different herbs are selected based on the season, time of day, and your personal preferences.
Our ancestors in India understood that certain plants carry unique qualities. Turmeric is warm and earthy. Ashwagandha is grounding and calming. Tulsi (Holy Basil) is uplifting and aromatic. These aren't just flavors — they're part of a tradition passed down for thousands of years.
Herbs by Time of Day
Ayurveda teaches that each time of day has its own character. Many tea lovers enjoy choosing blends that match the rhythm of their day:
- Morning (Kapha time): Warming blends with ginger, black pepper, or green tea — a bright start to the day
- Midday (Pitta time): Cooling herbs like peppermint or fennel — a refreshing pause
- Afternoon (Vata time): Grounding teas with cinnamon, cardamom, or ashwagandha — a cozy moment of focus
- Evening (Kapha time): Calming blends with chamomile or tulsi — the perfect wind-down ritual
