From blending locally in California to right-sizing our shipping boxes, we look for ways to reduce our environmental footprint.
How We Do It
1 Packaging & Materials
We choose materials that are compostable or recyclable wherever possible:
- Tea bags: Made from unbleached Abaca hemp, a compostable plant fiber with no metal staples
- Cartons: Recyclable paperboard printed with soy-based inks
- Inner wrap: Compostable film designed to break down naturally
- Shipping boxes: Recycled kraft cardboard
- Fill material: Recycled paper — we avoid plastic air pillows and styrofoam
2 Sourcing & Farming
Our herbs and spices come from family-owned farms in India, Sri Lanka, and Egypt that share our values:
- USDA Organic certified — no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or GMOs
- Long-term farm relationships — we work with trusted growers in India, Sri Lanka, and Egypt
- Sustainable farming — our partner farms practice crop rotation, composting, and water conservation
- Small-batch harvesting — herbs are carefully selected for quality and freshness
Traceability matters. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure transparency and quality at every step of the supply chain.
3 Shipping & Operations
We're committed to reducing the carbon footprint of every order:
- Local blending — by blending and packing in California, we keep our supply chain shorter
- Consolidated shipments — orders are batched to minimize trips and fuel use
- Right-sized packaging — boxes are cut to fit, reducing waste and shipping weight
- Continuous improvement — we're always exploring new ways to reduce emissions across our operations
4 Goals for 2026 & Beyond
We're always pushing to do better. Here's what we're working toward:
- Explore B Corp certification as a future milestone
- Transition to compostable shipping labels
- Evaluate a refill pouch program for Subscribe & Save customers
- Partner with reforestation organizations to give back to the earth
