Lady Tally's Earl Grey Tea
Lady Tally's Earl Grey tea is the classic citrus-scented teatime cup: robust black tea from North-East India with bergamot flavor. It contains caffeine and drinks well hot with milk, over ice, or as a London Fog latte.
The Story Behind Our Earl Grey Tea
Tea plants (Camellia sinensis) are cultivated in the hilly North-Eastern regions of India. Here the cool and sunny weather, well-drained soils, and ample rainfall are ideal for the plant's optimal growth — and produce some of the most respected black tea leaves in the world.
Black tea is made from fully fermented leaves of the tea plant. The fermentation process gives it a robust flavor and a deep golden-brown hue.
Earl Grey is black tea scented with bergamot, a fragrant citrus. The bergamot flavor brings a bright, floral-citrus aroma to the cup while the black tea keeps its full body underneath — tea first, citrus second. It is one of the best-known teatime blends in the world, equally at home with a splash of milk or on its own.
What Earl Grey Tea Tastes Like
🍂 First sip: Robust black tea — deep golden-brown 🍋 Mid-palate: Bright bergamot — floral citrus, not perfume 🫖 Finish: Smooth and clean — milk or honey both welcome
This is an Earl Grey that keeps the tea in charge. The bergamot reads as fresh citrus rather than a heavy scent, and the black tea base gives the cup enough body to take milk.
Our favorite add-ins:
- Steamed milk with honey or a drop of vanilla — a London Fog latte
- A splash of milk — the classic teatime way
- A slice of lemon — brightens the bergamot
- Iced with a lemon wedge — a crisp summer drink
How to Brew Earl Grey Tea (Hot, Iced & London Fog)
Standard cup: Pour freshly boiled water over one tea bag. Brew for 3–5 minutes. Add milk, honey, or lemon to taste.
Stronger cup: Use two bags or steep 6–7 minutes. Black tea generally tolerates a longer steep better than green tea.
London Fog latte: Brew one bag in 4 oz hot water for 4 minutes. Pour into 6 oz steamed milk (whole or oat). Sweeten with honey or add a drop of vanilla — a cozy Earl Grey tea latte in under five minutes.
Iced Earl Grey: Brew two bags strong in 8 oz hot water, let cool, then pour over a tall glass of ice with a lemon wedge.
Earl Grey iced-tea pitcher: Brew 4–5 bags in 4 cups of hot water for 6–8 minutes, then dilute with 4 cups cold water and refrigerate. Serve over ice with lemon.
Cold brew: Drop 2 bags into 16 oz of cold water and refrigerate overnight. The smoothest, least-bitter version — no heat needed.
What Makes Our Earl Grey Tea Different
Many flavored teas start with the flavoring and build on an unnamed tea base. Our Earl Grey starts the other way around: a genuine black tea from a named growing region, with bergamot flavor layered on top. You taste the difference in the finish — a real, brisk black-tea body under the citrus.
