Why This Tea Works

Turmeric Root

Organic turmeric root, rich in curcumin — a cornerstone of Ayurvedic wellness tradition for centuries.

Ginger Root

Organic ginger root with natural gingerol — prized in Ayurveda for its warming, aromatic qualities.

Black Pepper

Black pepper with natural piperine — traditionally combined with turmeric in Ayurveda to enhance its benefits.

"Black pepper is the key — it's traditionally paired with turmeric in Ayurvedic practice to enhance absorption."

Hook

This is not just another turmeric tea with a few herbs tossed in — this is a rare formula our founder spent years perfecting, built around sacred tulsi sourced from the deserts of Rajasthan, India. Organic turmeric with 5.5% curcumin, bold ginger, a pinch of black pepper, and the wana tulsi variety of holy basil — blended in our California facility into one deeply earthy, grounding cup.

Story

Turmeric and ginger are powerful on their own. But this blend exists because of what we added to them — tulsi.

Tulsi, known in the West as holy basil, is not just another herb. In India, it was the only herb allowed to be brought into the temples. It was considered sacred — grown especially for kings and royalty, reserved for those who understood its place in the tradition. For over 5,000 years, tulsi has held a singular status in Indian culture that no other herb can claim.

Our founder sources a specific variety — wana tulsi, combined with a second tulsi cultivar — directly from the deserts of Rajasthan, India. This is not the generic holy basil you find in mass-market blends. Desert-grown tulsi develops a deeper, more complex character — earthier, more aromatic, shaped by the extreme climate it endures.

In Ayurvedic tradition, tulsi is paired with other herbs to complement and elevate the blend. That's exactly what it does here. The turmeric in this blend contains 5.5% curcumin — verified by independent lab testing — and the ginger and black pepper round out the formula with warmth and depth. But tulsi is the soul of this cup. It ties the blend together into something that feels whole, calm, and grounded.

This is a very rare kind of formula. Our founder created it because he believed tulsi deserved to be the star, not a footnote.

What You'Ll Taste

🌿 First sip: A warm, golden earthiness from the turmeric, immediately grounded by tulsi's smooth, herbaceous depth 🌶️ Mid-palate: Ginger heat rises gently, layered with tulsi's distinctive clove-like, slightly minty character ⚡ Finish: A soft peppery bite from the black pepper, fading into a long, earthy, deeply calming aftertaste

Tasting notes: earthy, grounding, peppery-herbaceous, warm spice, subtle clove undertones

Our customers' favorite ways to enjoy it:

  • Plain — let the tulsi and turmeric speak for themselves
  • With honey — rounds out the earthiness into something golden and smooth
  • With fresh lemon — brightens the spice and lifts the herbal notes
  • As warm as possible — our founder's recommendation for this blend

How To Brew

Standard cup: Pour freshly boiled water (200-212 F) over one tea bag. Steep 5-7 minutes. Leave the tea bag in the cup for the fullest extraction. Gently squeeze the bag before removing to release the remaining herbal extract.

Stronger brew: Use two bags or steep 10+ minutes. The tulsi and turmeric only get richer the longer you steep — this is not a tea you can over-brew.

Golden Tulsi Ritual: Brew one bag in a small amount of hot water. Add warm whole milk and a spoonful of honey. The tulsi transforms a simple turmeric latte into something more aromatic and complex. Enjoy 1-2 hours before winding down for the evening.

Iced version: Brew two bags in a small amount of hot water. Let cool, pour over ice, add a squeeze of lemon. The cold brings out tulsi's minty undertones in a way that surprises first-time drinkers.

Best enjoyed: As warm as possible. Drink slowly. This is a cup meant to be sat with.

Faq

What makes this turmeric tea different from your Turmeric Ginger & Black Pepper? The key difference is tulsi — sacred holy basil. Our Turmeric Ginger & Black Pepper is a bold, three-ingredient powerhouse. This blend adds wana tulsi from the deserts of Rajasthan, which brings a smooth, herbaceous depth and a distinctive clove-like character. If you love our original turmeric tea and want something more layered and aromatic, this is the next step.

What is tulsi, and why is it special? Tulsi, also known as holy basil, is one of the most revered herbs in Indian culture. It was the only herb traditionally allowed to be brought into temples in India and was grown especially for kings and royalty. Our tulsi is the wana tulsi variety, sourced from the deserts of Rajasthan — a region known for producing deeply aromatic, high-quality tulsi. In Ayurvedic tradition, tulsi is paired with other herbs to complement and elevate the blend.

Is this tea caffeine-free? Yes. All our Ayurvedic herbal blends are naturally caffeine-free. This blend is perfect for any time of day, including evenings.

How much curcumin is in the turmeric? Our turmeric contains 5.5% curcumin, verified by independent lab testing. The industry standard is approximately 1.5%.

Why is black pepper included? In Ayurvedic tradition, black pepper has always been turmeric's companion. They've been brewed together in India for centuries. It also adds a subtle peppery finish to the cup.

What does this tea taste like? Earthy, grounding, and warmly spiced. The turmeric provides a golden, earthy base, the ginger brings gentle heat, and the tulsi adds a smooth herbaceous layer with clove-like undertones. Black pepper finishes with a soft bite. It's a deeply satisfying, calming cup.

FOUNDER'S NOTE

"This is a very rare kind of tea formula that I've created. The turmeric has 5.5% curcumin, and we pair it with ginger and black pepper — as it's always been done in Ayurveda. But what makes this tea truly special is the tulsi. We procure our tulsi from the deserts of Rajasthan — it's wana tulsi combined with another tulsi variety. Tulsi was the only herb that was allowed to be brought into the temples in India. It was considered a sacred herb, grown especially for kings and royalty. When you drink this tea, you feel very calm, very relaxed. It's a very special, very earthy, very nice cup." — Founder of Herbal Cup Tea
